Let's discuss the new Ferds and some old Acura.

I'm not so into the new GT (oh- excuse me for stating my opinion since I don't have $200,000+ to piss away on a large toy), not into trucks but the Raptor is still quite badass, and the GT350R is plain awesome. I don't even care for the normal Mustang all that much but the 350 is amazing and the 350R is too cool for the 21st century. I wonder what a GT made by the GT350 team would look like... Also, there's a new 'NSX'. How do we feel about this stuff? Better to talk here than with pompous FP burners.

I think it's all just stupendous.

The GT is no longer a tribute car, but I think it's Ford using it to look cool. After all, they're aware of what a following the car has.

If Acura Isn't playin with our patience and isn't ready to surprise us with a 700 hp hybrid supercar, I don't care anymore.

I hope they offer a GT with the old GT's manual and the GT350R's engine, that would be dope. I'll never own any of those cars, but it would be sweet.

NSX seems good, but I fear they have failed to learn from their past mistakes and will make a great car that won't sell well.

I like your GT a lot. That's what I pictured the GT350 team's version being. Maybe a 350R motor bored and stroked to 5.6 liters or so with a ported head, hotter cam, intake and exhaust. With a 6 speed, I would buy that car over a house. The NSX seems good but like the GT, it's just not as desirable to their former target buyer as the predecessor. It's a different kind of car but seems good nonetheless. I don't see it selling all that well either...

We'll wait for reviews but I'll bet the NSX comes off as a half cocked 2007 R8 wannabe.

I think the GT looks overdone. Cool, but overdone and turbochargers plus a lack of manual transmission turns me off completely.

GT350/350R might find it's way into my garage one day depending on price vs C7

Raptor, not my thing either.

I am very sad

Until very recently we had the most diversity the sports car world had ever seen

Some high end sports cars were N/A, some turbo

Some were Manuél, some single clutch or dual clutch paddle shift

Most were RWD but some were AWD

Some creatively used a ton of different aluminum alloys to keep weight down, some used a full carbon fiber, and some used a carbon fiber tub with aluminum

Some were ICE only, some used electric power as well

But now it seems like we're heading towards less variety

Most high end sports cars will be be very similar. The main difference will be badge

I know that isn't new as in the old days almost all high end sports cars were RWD + stick + N/A. But I was just enjoying the recent age of diversity.

I fully agree with your statement here. Their both just cars to me now. I was hoping to lose my mind and blow up my brain when I saw them and simply asked, "Why?" The GT was over done on the outside and the NSX was under done on the inside. Like Michael Ballaban said:

But let's talk about that interior, which is, well, an interior. That's really all the praise I've got for what's supposed to be some serious, $150,000 cockpit design.

I am extremely disappointed with just about everything at the Detroit Auto Show.

Like how I responded to Honda Man, I am with you. It was a disastrous auto show, in my opinion.

But there was a 'ute :)

I'm just sad to see the trend move so far away from small lightweight performance cars for everybody's budget. Didn't we have like 3-4 concepts last year aimed directly at the Toyobaru? That's the kind of stuff that actually interests me. Even the mustang shown today is only a car I can aspire to own "someday" and then I bet it's ~$70-80K pricetag turns me off when I look at what else I can get for the price on the used market (future Car buying article: YOU CAN BUY 3 E90 M3s FOR THE PRICE OF A GT350R!)

Nail on the head with that last statement! Also, true. There WAS a ute and those are hot! Agree with you on lightweight and affordable sports cars.

I just lost so much with the auto show. V6 TT Ford GT, V6 Raptor, and a lack of V8's overall. Save the V8's!!

Well if it is dying, at least the flat plane number in the GT350 is a good swan song. Better to go out with a bang than fade away by being choked to death by CARB and a bunch of eco nerds.

Excellent points. Variety was very interesting for a while; new technologies were quite impressive while the classic fun of gated Manuel and screaming engines was comforting. Now the successor to the GT is trying to be a turbocharged hypercar!

we just had a time in street cars that was like the time period in F1 when teams could take a YOLO attitude towards engines. everyone was trying different things

now everyone is going to do TT V6 or V8s only. and the transmission will always be DCT :(
